Russia doubled strikes on Ukrzaliznytsia: Kuleba revealed the enemy's new tactics.
Russian attacks on 'Ukrzaliznytsia'
According to inkorr.com: The railway infrastructure of Ukraine has once again become a target for Russian attacks. Locomotives and their crews often come under fire. This information was disclosed by Oleksiy Kuleba, the Deputy Prime Minister for Infrastructure, in a comment for The Guardian.
Kuleba noted that Russia has changed its tactics and started specifically targeting trains and their crews. Since July, the number of attacks has doubled, indicating a worsening situation.
It is estimated that since the beginning of 2025, Russia has carried out over 800 attacks on 'Ukrzaliznytsia' facilities, causing damage to more than 3000 transport hubs and losses amounting to over 1 billion dollars.
Kuleba also emphasized that Russian drones are actively attempting to attack locomotives, aiming fire at the drivers, complicating train movement.
Strategic goals of Moscow
The Deputy Prime Minister explained the strategic goals behind Russia's attacks on Ukraine's railway infrastructure:
- In the south - blocking routes for transporting goods to ports.
- At the border - disrupting communications in the Chernihiv and Sumy regions.
- In the east - destroying the industry in Donbas that depends on rail transport.
The new tactics of the militants were vividly demonstrated in the example of the attack on the railway station in Lozova in Kharkiv region. Eyewitnesses describe how the station awoke to an explosion at night and witnessed the shelling of trains.
Although the tracks after the attack in Lozova are quickly restored, the losses of locomotives are irreversible. Russia is trying to achieve its goals to weaken Ukraine's defense capabilities.
Currently, Russian attacks on 'Ukrzaliznytsia' are becoming increasingly large-scale, threatening not only infrastructure but also workers and passengers. Russia conducts targeted attacks on trains and stations, aiming to inflict maximum damage on the Ukrainian railway to undermine the economy and defense capabilities of the country.
The situation with the attacks on 'Ukrzaliznytsia' highlights the vulnerability of key transport arteries during the conflict. The increase in the number of attacks forces the Ukrainian side to seek new strategies to protect its infrastructure and ensure the safety of workers and passengers. This issue is becoming increasingly relevant in the context of supporting the country's economy and its defense capabilities.
