Approximately 20 of these sites presented themselves as local media outlets, suggesting an attempt to influence public opinion at a regional level. Some campaigns have sought to discredit French authorities, including President Emmanuel Macron, through fabricated stories. The Russian disinformation network known as Storm-1516 is known to be conducting these operations, highlighting the threat such attacks pose to democratic processes.
