Russia plans to seize Zaporizhia NPP

According to inkorr.com: Russia is actively preparing for a special operation aimed at gaining control over the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. Energy expert Viktor Kurtev notes that this operation may be approaching its final stage as the occupiers attempt to reduce tension at the plant in order to connect it to the Russian energy grid. The specialist believes that the worst-case scenario may occur during the reactor startup.

According to Kurtev, Putin's statements about the Zaporizhia NPP are part of a plan for the full integration of the plant into the Russian energy system, and these threats raise serious concerns.

Warnings about the possibility of a catastrophe

Viktor Kurtev emphasizes that there is no need to panic over a potential disaster at the ZNPP. The plant’s reactors have been in a 'cold shutdown' for more than three years, which makes unwanted reactions impossible. Even in the worst conditions, the temperature will not exceed the critical 550°C.

'Even in a situation where the diesel generators are shut down... no Fukushima is possible there,' adds the expert.

However, if one of the power units is started, the situation may change. A forced shutdown of the reactor poses serious consequences, including the possibility of melting the active zone.

Blackmail from Russia and Ukraine's response

Earlier, attempts by the Russians to control the ZNPP were recorded. According to the expert, Putin's actions are a direct threat and blackmail. Shelling near the plant has been confirmed by the IAEA and creates serious risks for nuclear safety. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine views these actions as part of Russia’s strategy to complicate repair work and increase tension.

The expert also points to the threat of melting the active zone in the event of an emergency shutdown of the plant, urging caution and preparedness for unforeseen situations.

The situation around the Zaporizhia NPP remains tense as control over the plant is strategically important for both sides of the conflict. The importance of nuclear safety in this region takes on new dimensions as the risks grow each day. Ukrainian experts and relevant authorities continue to monitor events, hoping for stability and preventing potential catastrophes.
