Over 150 Strikes on Odesa Ports in 2025: Russia Escalates Attacks on Ukrainian Infrastructure.
Threats to Ukraine's Port Infrastructure
According to Novyny.live: Russia has intensified its assaults on the ports of Odesa and Chornomorsk, posing a serious risk to Ukraine's port infrastructure. Since the start of 2023, Moscow has launched more than 180 attacks on these strategic facilities. The primary threats come from drone strikes and naval-based assaults. In response, Ukrainian forces are bolstering their defenses by strengthening air defense systems and adapting mobile fire groups.
In 2025 alone, approximately 150 strikes were recorded against port infrastructure, highlighting the persistent nature of the aggression. On March 23, 2023, Russian troops carried out a massive attack on the Odesa region using combat drones. The following day, March 22, drone strikes again targeted the southern part of the Odesa region. As a result, the situation remains tense, with Ukrainian military personnel continuing their efforts to safeguard critical assets.
Effectiveness of Ukrainian Forces
Ukraine's success rate in intercepting drones has improved significantly—by 25 to 35 percent—reflecting advancements in defensive tactics and technology. Beyond aerial threats, Ukrainian troops also face mine hazards. According to Dmytro Pletenchuk,
“We encounter mines from World War II and even World War I.”
He also noted that
“The Navy is effectively operating across all three elements—land, sea, and air—to counter drones.”
The surge in attacks on the ports of Odesa and Chornomorsk underscores the vital importance of protecting port infrastructure for Ukraine's economy, as these facilities are essential for exporting and importing goods. Continued aggressive actions by Russia could lead to even greater damage and worsen the humanitarian situation in the region. In response to these challenges, Ukrainian military forces are continuously refining their defense strategies, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining control over key areas and ensuring public safety. This could also shape future military and political developments in the region.
