Russia is increasing its military presence in the Arctic: what is the threat to the USA and NATO.
According to inkorr.com: Russia is actively expanding its military presence in the Arctic region, planning to revive Soviet military bases and implement long-range systems. Underwater platforms are already being tested, as well as maneuvers near Alaska.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
Hybrid Influence of the Kremlin
Experts from the Center for Countering Disinformation note that the Kremlin uses the Arctic region as a tool for hybrid influence. Relevant are the information campaigns regarding the 'stabilizing role of the Russian Federation' and the construction of the Northern Sea Route infrastructure, which is primarily intended for military purposes.
'The goal of these actions is to create an 'Arctic pressure corridor' against the USA, dispersing Washington's resources between the North and the Indo-Pacific region, posing a threat to NATO countries,' the Center emphasized.
Challenges of Fleet Construction
Amid these intentions, officials from the Russian Ministry of Transport are facing difficulties in building a fleet for the Northern Sea Route. Delays in projects, a shortage of tankers and icebreakers, as well as declining cargo flows, indicate serious problems in Russia's military development in the Arctic.
'This undermines Moscow's claims of being a 'leader in the Arctic' and exposes the gap between aggressive rhetoric and real capabilities,' the CPD noted.
Conclusion
The strengthening of Russia's military presence in the Arctic aims to create a pressure corridor against the USA and NATO countries. This is confirmed not only by the actions taken but also by the challenges facing the Russian military fleet in this region.
Therefore, the situation in the Arctic leaves many questions regarding Russia's real capabilities and strategic intentions. Despite an aggressive policy, internal problems and delays may significantly impact the achievement of declared goals.
