Russia has launched an information campaign: why the Kremlin is exaggerating its successes on the front.
According to inkorr.com: Russia is trying to convince the West of its 'inevitable victory.' According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Kremlin has initiated an information campaign to exaggerate its military capabilities and create the impression of an expected triumph. The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, Valery Gerasimov, confirmed this information, claiming significant achievements.
“ISW believes that Gerasimov exaggerates most of his claims. There is evidence that since March 1, Russian forces have only captured 2346 square kilometers of territory and 130 settlements”
However, according to ISW estimates, Russian units are not advancing as quickly as the Kremlin claims. The Minister of Defense of Russia, Andrey Belyусов, stated that up to 700 km² is captured each month, whereas in reality, in June, July, and August 2025, the advance was only 440-500 square kilometers.
Kremlin's Manipulations with Data
Analysts believe that the Kremlin is trying to influence the West by creating the impression of an inevitable Russian victory. Despite the slow progress of Russian troops and significant losses, the Kremlin seeks to present its achievements as rapid and successful.
While the Kremlin tries to create an image of active and rapid advancement of Russian forces in the east, real data tells a different story. The information campaign initiated by the Kremlin aims to shape the West's perception of Russia's invincibility, but analysts view this as an attempt to manipulate data.
This campaign demonstrates how information flows can be used to alter perceptions of reality in international relations. The Kremlin, trying to maintain authority and boost the morale of its troops, is reaching a new level of manipulation in its struggle for influence. The narrative presented by Russian officials tests the patience of the West and underscores the importance of critical analysis of information reports during modern armed conflicts.
