Russia's plans for military replenishment in 2026

According to TSN.ua: Russia plans a large-scale replenishment of its military units in 2026, recruiting both Russian citizens and residents of temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. According to the spokesperson of the Southern Defense Forces, Vladislav Voloshin, Russia intends to recruit nearly 67 thousand people to bolster its military units.

Recruitment areas

According to the plans, Russia will focus on recruiting residents from:

  • Donetsk region
  • Luhansk region
  • Occupied Crimea
  • City of Sevastopol
  • Parts of Zaporizhzhia region
  • Parts of Kherson region

From the temporarily occupied part of Zaporizhzhia region, it is planned to sign contracts with approximately 530 people, from Kherson region - about 300, from Crimea - over 3.5 thousand people, and from Sevastopol - about 750.

It is worth noting that in the first ten days of 2026, Russians have already mobilized about 130 people from the occupied territories of Ukraine. Previously, last year, Russia planned to recruit up to 400 thousand people into its occupation army. Vladislav Voloshin noted that

“they even set specific plans”
regarding the recruitment of new servicemen.

This information indicates the continuation of Russian military activity in Ukraine and the Kremlin's intentions to strengthen its forces in the occupied territories. The involvement of local residents in military formations can increase the level of tension in the region, as it will not only affect security but also the socio-economic situation in these areas. It is important to note that such actions by Russia may provoke international reactions and an increase in sanctions against the aggressor country.
