Ongoing Theft of Ukrainian Crops Adds to Black Sea Tensions

According to Novyny.live: Russia continues its aggressive tactics by plundering Ukrainian farmland and shipping out grain, creating serious risks in the Black Sea region. In 2025, occupying forces illegally removed roughly 2 million tons of Ukrainian grain, with nearly 40% ending up on the Egyptian market. This not only damages Ukraine’s economy but also helps fund Russia’s military operations. To counter these threats and safeguard maritime routes, a Maritime Security Center is set to be established in the Black Sea. The need for such a facility became clear after another Russian attack on port infrastructure in the Odesa region on the night of March 20. These strikes are part of a broader effort to cripple Ukraine’s economic potential and disrupt international trade.

Andriy Sybiha, a Ukrainian official, stressed that reclaiming Crimea is essential for regional stability, stating: 'Stability in the region is impossible without the full de-occupation of Crimea.'

He also pointed out that the issue goes beyond stolen grain and directly funds the war, adding: 'The only solution is the full restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity. And it all starts with Crimea and must end with Crimea. Crimea is Ukraine.'

Meanwhile, the international community continues to stand with Ukraine. The European Union has committed 195 billion euros in support, and partners are preparing an additional loan package worth 95 billion euros. This reflects global solidarity in opposing Russian aggression and working to restore Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas emphasized the importance of international unity, stating: 'For the second time, Russia will not achieve its goal—neither in its attempt to force the Ukrainian people to submit through hunger, nor in its attempt to spread that pain to the rest of the world. Russia’s behavior has united the global community around Ukraine.'

The situation in Ukraine remains tense, with ongoing Russian threats demanding decisive international action to protect Ukrainian interests and ensure regional stability. The plunder of Ukraine’s resources and Russia’s military actions have severe economic and social consequences, undermining Ukraine’s ability to recover and develop. Furthermore, the security situation in the Black Sea is growing increasingly critical, requiring not only Ukraine’s efforts but also active support from the global community. The creation of the Maritime Security Center could mark a key step in addressing the threats posed by Russian aggression and securing stability in the region.
