Russia is losing allies: why the Kremlin cannot even protect Maduro.
The position of Russia and the support of its allies
According to UATV: Russia is facing difficulties in supporting its allies, particularly Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, amid significant pressure from the United States. Since Maduro's arrest in 2022, the Kremlin has been losing its geopolitical influence, jeopardizing its ability to protect its partners on the international stage. The situation demonstrates serious challenges facing Russian foreign policy.
Nicolás Maduro, who holds the position of President of Venezuela, was received by Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin in May 2022. However, the US arrested Maduro in the same year, worsening his position. At the same time, Russia is trying to find support from other allies. For instance, Iran, which supported Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, sold Russia missiles worth nearly 3 billion dollars. This indicates that Russia is trying to strengthen its military capabilities, but instability in relations with allies remains a relevant issue.
Economic challenges and geopolitical pressure
The Russian economy is also facing difficulties. According to market data, 35 million barrels of Russian oil are accumulating at sea, indicating export problems. Additionally, the US has seized several tankers, such as Marinera (Bella 1), Sophia, and Olina. The latest seizure of a tanker occurred on January 7, 2023, when the US captured the tanker Marinera (Bella 1) in the Atlantic. This marked the fifth seized vessel by the US, indicating an increase in Washington's activity in combating Russian interests on the global stage.
In the face of growing challenges and geopolitical pressure, Vladimir Putin's voice, as noted by CNN,
“is absent after the US regime change operation”. The lessons to be drawn from events suggest that
“the myth of Russia's strength and invincibility has already been shattered”, as stated by The Moscow Times. These factors indicate that Russia is losing its positions on the international stage and facing serious challenges in supporting its allies.
The situation surrounding Nicolás Maduro and Russian-American relations underscores the crisis of trust and support between Russia and its traditional allies. The growing pressure from the US seeks to weaken the Kremlin's geopolitical position, which may lead to changes in the global balance of power. As Russia loses control over its geopolitical interests, such events could have far-reaching consequences for international stability and security.
