Ukraine Thwarts Major Drone Assault

According to Novyny.live: In a large-scale overnight attack, Russian forces launched 115 combat drones against Ukraine beginning at 18:30 on February 24. Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed 95 of the unmanned aerial vehicles. Despite this high interception rate, the remaining drones managed to strike 11 different locations, causing a total of 18 impacts. This relentless assault highlights the ongoing intensity of the air war, now in its third year.

The attack involved approximately 60 Iranian-designed 'Shahed' drones. The assault also included other models such as:

  • Gerbera
  • Italmas
  • Several other types

The drones were launched from multiple directions, including Russia's Bryansk and Kursk regions, as well as from the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine's Donetsk Oblast.

Ukrainian President Warns of Critical Shortages

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has raised urgent concerns about a critical shortage of air defense missiles, which could severely hamper the country's ability to repel future attacks of this scale. The situation remains tense, as hostile drones continue to pose a significant threat to Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure.

This incident underscores the escalating intensity of the conflict in Ukraine, where drone attacks are becoming increasingly frequent and large-scale.

President Zelenskyy's expressed alarm over the missile shortage points to potential difficulties in maintaining an effective defense. Under these conditions, Ukraine must urgently seek new solutions to bolster its defensive capabilities to counter the aggression and protect its civilian population.
