According to UATV: Russia is intensifying its campaign to destroy Ukraine's energy infrastructure, deliberately targeting it during a severe winter cold spell. In an interview with the FREEДОМ TV channel, foreign and domestic policy expert Lyudmyla Pokrovshchuk emphasized that the Kremlin is exploiting the harsh weather conditions, which this year are aiding the Russian Federation's aggression. She stated that this effect will be leveraged to the maximum.

Pokrovshchuk also stressed the urgent need for a robust air defense system for Ukraine. She called for international assistance, which could prove critical for the country's energy recovery. This winter assault on civilian infrastructure represents a significant escalation in the conflict's humanitarian impact.

International Aid for Ukraine

In support of Ukraine during this crisis, Czech President Petr Pavel has urged allies to provide concrete aid, not just declarations. The United Kingdom has already announced financial assistance of £20 million. Norway also plans to provide $200 million for energy restoration, while Italy is sending equipment worth approximately €2 million.

Repairs are ongoing at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) on a reserve power line damaged on January 2, 2023. These measures are vital for ensuring the stability of the energy grid amid warfare and freezing temperatures. The plant's situation remains precarious as it operates in a conflict zone.
