Russian Forces Overhaul Transport Rules on Highway R-280 After Heavy Losses.
Revised Transportation Protocol for the Russian Armed Forces
According to UATV: On May 30, 2023, the Russian military command implemented new transportation protocols following severe losses along the R-280 highway. This key route crosses occupied areas in Ukraine’s Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk regions. The change highlights the growing dangers Russian units face while operating in these territories.
New Movement Restrictions
Under the updated rules, the movement of military equipment and personnel will now primarily take place at night or during periods of poor visibility. This shift is clearly aimed at reducing the chances of columns being spotted and struck by enemy forces. Additionally, vehicles must maintain a minimum speed of 120 km/h to limit their exposure on open stretches of road.
To further boost security, every vehicle will now carry a third crew member equipped with an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) detector. This measure is intended to provide early warning against drone-based surveillance or attacks on military convoys.
These changes in the transportation of troops and hardware underscore the mounting risks confronting Russian armed forces amid the ongoing conflict.
The revised transport strategy reflects the serious challenges the Russian military faces in these regions and its efforts to preserve personnel and equipment under increasing pressure. Enhanced safety measures, such as the deployment of UAV detectors, point to the severe threats posed by enemy drone operations. This adaptation likely signals a broader effort to adjust to a rapidly changing battlefield, emphasizing the critical need to protect both human and material assets in the struggle for territorial control.
