Aftermath of the Sloviansk Shelling
According to UATV: A massive Russian military strike hit the city of Sloviansk in the Donetsk region on February 10, 2023, claiming the lives of an 11-year-old girl and her mother. The attack left a total of 16 people wounded. This eastern Ukrainian city has been a frequent target since the early stages of the full-scale invasion.
The bombardment resulted in:
- One private house being completely destroyed;
- Damage to 14 other private homes;
- Two multi-story apartment buildings;
- An administrative building;
- 29 cars and several storage hangars.
One car repair shop worker sustained severe injuries.
Local residents expressed their anguish over the attack's tragic outcome. A Sloviansk resident named Konstantin spoke about the victims:
“They were a good family. They moved here just before the war. The husband is a police officer, she worked on the railway. A good girl. When there was an air raid alarm, they always ran to hide in our basement because they were scared. And now they are gone.”His words reflect the profound pain and loss endured by civilians in this conflict.
Impact on the Humanitarian Situation
This assault is a stark reminder of the brutal consequences of the ongoing war in Ukraine, now in its second year. Sloviansk, a city that was previously an epicenter of hostilities, has once again become a target for shelling. Such attacks not only cause civilian casualties but also severely worsen the humanitarian crisis in the region. Living under constant threat, local inhabitants are forced to endure daily fear, while families face irreparable losses.
