Royal Mail to open thousands of stores in the UK: what will be available for purchase

According to The Sun: Royal Mail plans to open thousands of stores in the UK for the first time.

As part of this large-scale project, around 8,000 Collect+ stores will be transformed into Royal Mail branches.

New stores will appear on main streets and will be open for the collection, sending, and returning of parcels.

In addition, for the first time, Royal Mail services will be available for purchase here. The stores will operate extended hours, including evenings and weekends.

This will allow customers to send their parcels more conveniently.

The owner of Royal Mail, International Distribution Services, has acquired a 49% stake in Collect+ through a £43.9 million investment.

“The launch of the Royal Mail Shop brand creates a new and improved location on the high street for all our customers who need parcel services in one place,” said Royal Mail CEO Alister Cochren.

“This investment is one of the steps we are taking to improve the convenience of using Royal Mail services.”

Currently, Collect+ allows for the pickup and drop-off of parcels at over 13,000 stores across the country, including newsstands, convenience stores, supermarkets, and gas stations.

This new step by Royal Mail indicates a return to profitability for the company for the first time in three years. The postal service reported £12 million in profit for the year ending March 31, excluding costs related to employee layoffs. This is significant progress compared to last year's loss of £336 million.

DAYS WITHOUT SERVICE

Royal Mail operates without weekends for most of the year.

However, there are several days when parcel delivery and collection do not occur:

  • New Year's Day
  • Good Friday
  • Monday after Easter
  • Early May Bank Holidays
  • Spring Bank Holidays
  • Summer Bank Holidays
  • Christmas
  • Boxing Day

At the beginning of the year, Royal Mail increased stamp prices again.

This increase resulted in the price of first-class stamps rising by 5 pence to £1.70, while the second-class price rose by 2 pence to 87 pence.

These changes in Royal Mail's operations are occurring amid a significant transformation of the company, which is adapting to the changing demand for postal services in the modern market. Increased profitability and the expansion of the store network can positively impact the customer experience, providing them with more options to use the company's services and facilitating the processes of sending and receiving parcels. Monitoring the further development of this strategy may be of interest to all who use Royal Mail services.
