Commander Warns: Kremlin's True Goal is Conquest, and Peace Talks Could Demoralize Ukraine's Forces.
How Peace Negotiations Could Impact the Morale of Ukraine's Military
According to TSN.ua: Denis Kapustin, commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDC) who uses the call sign White Rex, has warned that discussions of a potential peace settlement could severely undermine the motivation of Ukrainian soldiers. He expressed his belief that debating an end to hostilities would negatively affect the fighting spirit of Ukraine's armed forces.
Kapustin pointed to the recent talks in Abu Dhabi between representatives of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, which he said yielded no results. While the primary topic was territorial issues, the RDC commander argued these discussions might merely be a smokescreen for the Kremlin to pursue other objectives. He emphasized that the Russian Federation's strategy is focused on seizing Ukrainian territory, not on establishing a genuine peace.
"No one wants to die, say, 24 hours before peace is declared," Kapustin stressed.
The commander also noted that Ukrainian troops continue to perform their duties, carrying out military, political, and media efforts regardless of any potential peace talks. He added: "We are doing our military work, we are doing our political work, we are doing our media work, and then let it be as it will be."
The Risks and Realities of Ceasefire Negotiations
Therefore, according to Kapustin's view, peace talks risk creating an illusion that the conflict is ending, while Moscow's true intentions—the further capture of Ukrainian land—remain unchanged.
It is important to note that Kapustin's comments highlight the profound disagreements surrounding peace negotiations during an active war. His perspective underscores the risk that diplomatic initiatives intended to reduce tension could inadvertently demoralize frontline troops. The situation remains complex, and the future steps taken by both Ukraine and Russia will significantly influence the course of events in the region. The Russian Volunteer Corps is a paramilitary unit of Russian citizens that has fought alongside Ukrainian forces against the Russian invasion.
