Zelenskyy Sets a Key Condition for Strengthening Ukraine’s Air Defenses: A License for Patriot Missiles.
Ukrainian President Calls for Patriot Missile Production License
According to Novyny.live: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has emphasized that securing a license to manufacture Patriot missiles on Ukrainian soil is essential for boosting the country’s air defense capabilities. Such a move would significantly enhance Ukraine’s self-sufficiency in protecting its skies. As Zelenskyy stated,
“The key to strengthening air defense is a license to produce Patriot missiles”.
Discussions at the G7 Summit
Speaking at a press conference during the G7 summit, the president described this license as a critical step toward reinforcing Ukraine’s air defense system. He also reported battlefield successes, noting that Ukrainian forces had recaptured 100 square kilometers in a single month along one front. Zelenskyy held talks with leaders of the Group of Seven, focusing on strategic security issues.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also joined the meeting. The leaders agreed that
“Russia has lost the initiative on the battlefield”. The discussions covered several key topics, including:
- A European anti-ballistic missile system
- A winter aid package
- The production of surface-to-air missiles
Obtaining a license to produce Patriot missiles in Ukraine could fundamentally shift the regional balance of power, improving the effectiveness of Ukrainian air defenses and reducing reliance on foreign supplies. It also reflects continued Western support for strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. The G7 summit discussions underscored the international community’s unity in backing Ukraine’s pursuit of security and stability.
