US intelligence analyzed the prospects of ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The tension between Moscow and Washington over the conflict in Ukraine, as well as Russia's advantage on the battlefield and the threat of nuclear war, complicate the resolution of the conflict and create a necessity for the US. This is indicated by a report from American intelligence agencies dedicated to the annual threat assessment.
The threat of non-targeted escalation and the threat from Russia to NATO is a consequence of the tense political-military situation between the two countries.
Western efforts to impose sanctions on Russia have accelerated its development of investments in new partnerships, particularly with China. The US believes that Russia has gained an advantage in the conflict with Ukraine and is trying to increase pressure on Kyiv and its allies.
The continuation of the war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine may have strategic consequences for the US, including the danger of nuclear conflict and threats to NATO allies.
Both Zelensky and Putin are interested in continuing discussions with the US about ending the war, but for now, both leaders consider the risks of a prolonged war to be lower than the risks of a failed settlement. China is also characterized as a potential threat to the US.
