Romania scrambled F-16s due to Russian drones: Border residents received an emergency warning.
Emergency notification in Romania
According to ТСН: On Friday, residents of the Romanian Tulcea County received urgent RO-Alert notifications about the threat of falling objects from the air. This was caused by a new attack of Russian drones on Ukrainian ports located near the border with Romania.
The Romanian Ministry of National Defense (MApN) reported that the air surveillance system detected a group of UAVs moving towards the Ukrainian border. At 11:50, two F-16 fighters took off from the 86th Air Base in Fetesti to patrol the border area. At 12:22, the air alert was canceled. According to official data, no violations of Romanian airspace have been recorded.
The RO-Alert civil protection system urged people to find shelter. The Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU) 'Delta' indicated that the signal was preventive due to the risk of falling debris from downed targets.
Local residents' attitude
Despite the seriousness of the warning, the residents of Tulcea reacted rather calmly. Locals in the comments emphasize that they have already 'got used' to such notifications but lament the lack of shelters in the recreation area.
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, fragments of Russian drones have been repeatedly found in Romania, particularly in Tulcea County. Residents of the region received similar warnings on New Year's Day as well. Currently, there has been no information about damage or injuries. Authorities urge citizens to remain calm and only trust official sources.
It is worth noting that the Russian terrorist army increasingly attacks Ukraine with strike drones in broad daylight to increase the burden on Ukrainian air defense.
Additionally, on the night of January 2, Russian occupiers launched an attack with three strike drones on a hospital in the city of Semenivka in the Chernihiv region.
This situation demonstrates how tensions are rising at the Ukrainian border and the impact of events on neighboring countries. Local communities in Romania are witnessing the negative consequences of Russian aggressive actions, so it is important to be cautious and follow official information. At the same time, this situation highlights the need for improving the shelter infrastructure for the population in similar critical situations.
