Romanian divers neutralized the Sea Baby marine drone in the Black Sea.

According to ТСН: The Romanian naval forces successfully neutralized the Sea Baby marine drone in the Black Sea, which according to information 'posed a threat to navigation'.

This information was confirmed by the Ministry of Defense of Romania.

Neutralization operation

Experts from the 39th diving center, in cooperation with a Coast Guard ship, searched an area about 67 km east of Constanța port. As a result of the analysis of the drifting object, it was determined that it was an unmanned surface vehicle of the Sea Baby type. The response group received permission to destroy it, which was carried out through a controlled detonation.

Maritime security control

Romanian military personnel noted that since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, they have been continuously monitoring the maritime and river area of responsibility, using both their own ships and aircraft, as well as cooperating with other NATO countries.

Furthermore, Romanian military personnel highlighted another serious threat to security at sea – drifting naval mines. Over the past nearly four years, about 150 naval mines have been neutralized in the Black Sea, seven of which were destroyed by Romanian Naval Forces.

Threats from Russia

Earlier, Turkish President Erdoğan expressed concern over the attacks on tankers by Russia's 'shadow fleet' in the Black Sea, describing it as 'a worrying escalation'.

Let us recall that SBU marine drones struck two sanctioned oil tankers of Russia's 'shadow fleet' KAIRO and VIRAT in the Black Sea. According to reports, the tankers might have been carrying oil worth almost 70 million dollars and helped the Kremlin evade sanctions.

In response, Turkey and Kazakhstan declared that they expect Ukraine to prevent similar incidents.

The neutralization of the marine drone once again underscores the importance of maintaining security in the region, especially in the context of escalating military actions. The Romanian Naval Forces and their partners continue to work together to ensure stability in waters that are strategically important for the security of Europe.
