The introduction of digital boarding passes was initially planned for November 3, 2025, but the timeline has changed, and it will now take place more than a week later.

In a statement, Ryanair clarified that the date change was made to “ensure a smooth transition for customers during a less busy travel period after the fall holidays.”

The airline also noted: “Ryanair's transition to 100 percent digital boarding passes will provide a faster, more convenient, and more environmentally friendly travel experience.”

From this point on, Ryanair passengers will need to use a digital boarding pass created in the ‘myRyanair’ app during check-in.

According to Ryanair, this innovation will save 300 tons of paper, as already 90 percent of passengers use their passes on smartphones.

Check-in counters will not offer a printing service, and Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary stated that in case of phone battery depletion or loss, staff will allow the passenger to board. However, travelers should remember that online check-in must be completed at least two hours before arriving at the airport.

At the same time, there are exceptions: some airports will still require printed passes.

In particular, passengers departing from airports in Morocco or Turkey (except Dalaman) will still need to have printed boarding passes.

Another airport where printed boarding passes will be required is Tirana Airport in Albania, but this requirement is expected to change in March 2026.

The ‘myRyanair’ app also has other features that travelers can use right now. For example, passengers can order food and drinks directly from their phone to their seat.

Additionally, the app provides real-time flight information, boarding updates, gate locations, and delays.

GettyWith the new rules, Ryanair aims to simplify the boarding process and make it more environmentally friendly. At the same time, the existing exceptions for some airports highlight that the adaptation to new technologies may be gradual. The use of digital boarding passes has already become a common practice for most passengers, and the innovation aims to further simplify their travels.
