Saab plans to open a fighter assembly plant in Ukraine: details.
Saab is considering establishing a plant in Ukraine for assembling fighters
According to inkorr.com: According to a report from 'Wave', Saab AB CEO Mikael Johansson stated in an interview with the Financial Times that the company is considering the possibility of signing a contract for the supply of 100-150 aircraft for Ukraine. This will significantly increase Saab's production needs.
'Organizing production during wartime is a challenging task, but it would be great to establish at least final assembly, testing, and possibly partial production in Ukraine,' Johansson noted.
In addition to Ukraine, Saab is also planning to expand aircraft production in Brazil and is exploring opportunities in Canada and several European countries. To finalize the deal, financing issues need to be resolved, which may be affected by frozen Russian assets.
The importance of the contract for Saab
This potential contract is significant for Saab, as the company has only sold a limited number of Gripen E fighters in various countries to date. Earlier, President Zelensky announced plans for Ukraine to receive Gripen fighters.
Implementing the project to create a plant in Ukraine for assembling fighters could significantly strengthen the country's military-industrial complex. It also has strategic significance in the context of the current geopolitical situation in the region.
