"Shakhtar" achieved the first victory in the Champions League season.
Football club "Shakhtar" achieved the first victory in the Champions League season 2024/25. The "miners" defeated the Swiss "Young Boys" with a score of 2:1.
The miners started their fourth match in the Champions League season with one point and no goals scored. In turn, Young Boys approached the game against the Donetsk team after three losses.
The clubs met each other in the Champions League for the first Time since the 2016/17 season when they played in the third qualifying round of the most prestigious European club tournament. At that time, the teams exchanged victories with the same score of 2:0, but as a result of the two-legged confrontation, the "miners" lost in the penalty shootout.
In the first half, Shakhtar started to press on "Young Boys". In the ninth minute, Eginaldo scored a goal, but it was canceled due to offside. Subsequently, the miners managed to create two more dangerous moments near the Swiss goal but it was "Young Boys" who managed to open the score in the 27th minute of the match. Sheik Niassé provided an assist to Kastriot Imeri, who scored a goal.
However, Shakhtar did not give up and managed to equalize the score before halftime. Georgiy Sudakov delivered a cross into the penalty area, where it was finished by Oleksandr Zubkov. A bit later, Sudakov himself became the author of a goal, shooting in the lower left corner of the Swiss's goal.

After the victory, Shakhtar rose to 26th place in the Champions League standings with four points. The next Champions League match "Shakhtar" will play on November 27, when they will face Dutch PSV away.
As previously reported, Donetsk "Shakhtar" lost to London "Arsenal" in a Champions League match of the 2024/25 season with a score of 1:0. Previously, Donetsk "Shakhtar" suffered their first defeat in the European club season, a crushing loss to Italian "Atalanta" with a score of 0:3 in the second round of the Champions League group stage.
