Saudi Aramco Seeks Ukrainian Interceptor Drones to Protect Oil Assets.
Saudi Aramco in Talks to Acquire Interceptor Drones
According to UATV: On March 12, Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia's state-owned oil giant, entered discussions about purchasing Ukrainian-made interceptor drones to defend its oil fields from aerial attacks. This move follows a recent drone strike, likely originating from Iran, which targeted the Berri Oil Field. The global energy market is particularly sensitive to disruptions in Saudi production, which can significantly impact oil prices worldwide.
For this potential procurement, the company is negotiating with Ukrainian manufacturers SkyFall and Wild Hornets. The interceptor drones offered are designed to neutralize hostile unmanned aerial vehicles, providing a critical layer of defense for vital energy infrastructure. Saudi officials have also been in contact with the company Phantom Defense to discuss more detailed aspects of a potential agreement.
Growing Threats to Critical Energy Infrastructure
This initiative highlights the increasing focus on securing oil infrastructure against the rising threat posed by drone warfare. Acquiring these interceptor systems could allow Saudi Aramco to bolster its defensive capabilities and ensure greater stability in its oil production operations.
The escalating risk of attacks on oil infrastructure, particularly from drones, is forcing major energy companies like Saudi Aramco to reassess their security strategies. Partnering with Ukrainian drone manufacturers could not only enhance defensive measures but also underscore growing international cooperation in defense technology. This potential deal may mark a new phase in military-technical collaboration between Ukraine and Middle Eastern nations, reflecting Ukraine's emerging role as a developer of advanced asymmetric defense systems.
