Dismantling a hostile agent group

According to TSN.ua: In a joint operation, the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), the National Police, and Moldovan law enforcement agencies have eliminated a Russian agent and combat group. This group had planned to carry out contract murders in Ukraine on behalf of Russian intelligence services. The special operation, codenamed "Enigma 2.0", resulted in several arrests: seven individuals in Ukraine and three in the Republic of Moldova.

As the main figure identified in the investigations, authorities pinpointed a 34-year-old Moldovan with multiple criminal convictions. According to findings, the Russian clients intended to create panic with the planned murders and destabilize the socio-political situation in Ukraine. The perpetrators were supposed to receive up to 100,000 US dollars per act for the planned killings.

Searches and targets of the perpetrators

As part of the operation, house searches were conducted in over 20 regions of Ukraine. During these searches, firearms, ammunition, and hand grenades were seized. It is now being examined whether additional criminal offenses exist against the leader and members of the hostile network.

The group's targeted victims included:

  • Ukrainian journalists
  • Civil society activists
  • Management of a strategically important enterprise
  • Members of the Ukrainian military intelligence

The actions of the group members fall under several articles of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, particularly Article 14 (Preparation of a crime), Article 115 (Deliberate killing), and Article 263 (Illegal handling of weapons).

The dismantling of this group shows how actively Ukrainian security agencies counter external threats, particularly from Russia. The "Enigma 2.0" operation not only demonstrates resolve in the fight against terrorism and contract killings but also underscores the importance of international cooperation for regional security.

The successful operation is likely to have significant implications for Ukraine's internal security. Such actions are crucial to thwart early attempts at destabilization from the outside and to maintain public order.
