Support from Slovakia and Hungary

According to UATV: Slovakia has reaffirmed its backing for the launch of Ukraine's first negotiation cluster in the European Union accession process. This development follows Hungary's decision to lift its 17-month veto on Ukraine's membership. The official opening of the initial cluster, titled 'Fundamentals,' for both Ukraine and Moldova is scheduled for June 15, 2026.

Ukraine's EU integration is accelerating, as confirmed by European Council President António Costa, who highlighted opportunities to fast-track the accession of six candidate countries. These matters were discussed during a summit held on June 5, 2023, in Montenegro. As part of these developments, Hungary also unblocked over €6.5 billion from the European Peace Facility, unlocking new avenues for cooperation.

Hungary aims to rebuild trust with Ukraine, signaling a shift in the political climate and a push for common ground. The list of EU candidate countries also includes:

  • Moldova
  • United Kingdom
  • Norway
  • Canada
  • Iceland
  • Turkey
  • Albania
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Kosovo

Slovakia's support and Hungary's removal of its veto mark significant strides forward in Ukraine's European integration journey.

'EU enlargement is now more than ever a geostrategic necessity for Europe.' - António Costa

These events underscore the importance of collaboration and integration in today's world. The backing from Slovakia and Hungary's decision to lift its veto on Ukraine's EU membership open new doors for advancing European integration, especially amid current geopolitical challenges.

These steps not only foster political dialogue between nations but also strengthen economic cooperation, potentially boosting regional stability. The successful integration of Ukraine and other candidate countries into the EU could serve as a key factor in ensuring security and development across Europe.
