The Senate discusses new bills against Russia

The US Senate is gearing up to consider three important bills aimed at increasing pressure on Russia. Voting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, the day of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's meeting with US President Donald Trump and lawmakers. According to Axios, the passing of these bills will give senators the opportunity to more actively counter Moscow's actions and demonstrate Congress's readiness for decisive action.

Essence of the bills

The bills provide for:
  • recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism due to the abduction of Ukrainian children;
  • imposition of economic sanctions against China for supporting Russia's war in Ukraine;
  • the use of frozen Russian assets in the US to be transferred to Ukraine every 90 days.
Earlier, it became known that Russia was actively attacking energy networks and cities in Ukraine. These measures are aimed at increasing pressure on Moscow and supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. Senatorial initiatives reflect the strengthening of international support for Ukraine and reaffirm the determination of the United States to counter threats from Russia. The adoption of these bills could become an important step in strengthening the international coalition in support of Ukraine.
