Serbia signed a gas agreement with Russia for three years: contract details.
According to inkorr.com: In October this year, Serbia plans to sign an agreement with Russia for gas supply for a period of three years. According to the head of the Serbian state gas company Srbijagas, Dusan Bayatovic, the annual supply volume will be 2.5 billion cubic meters.
The price of gas for Serbia will remain unchanged. In addition to supplies from Russia, the country is also seeking to diversify its energy resource sources and is signing an agreement for the daily supply of 2.5 million cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan.
According to Bayatovic, Serbia receives an additional 9.5 million cubic meters of gas from Russia every day.
Serbia has only one gas storage facility, which holds 780 million cubic meters, but if necessary, it can receive an additional 200 million cubic meters from the storage facility in Hungary.
Serbia and Russian gas: a complex situation
Despite its aspiration to join the European Union, Serbia remains an important importer of Russian gas, which reinforces its dependence on Russia in the energy sector. The country's government has currently not supported EU sanctions against Russia.
The agreement between Serbia and Russia regarding gas supply for the next three years is characterized by stable supply volumes, attractive prices, and the country's intention to diversify its energy sources. This highlights the complex balance that Serbia is trying to maintain between its energy needs and European obligations.
