Ukraine to Shift Air Defense Strategy, Targeting 50% Jet-Powered Drone Composition, Says Syrskyi.
Ukraine's Military Adapts to Emerging Threats
According to Novyny.live: In response to evolving Kremlin tactics, Ukraine's armed forces plan to increase the share of jet-powered strike drones to half of their fleet. Major General Oleksandr Syrskyi recently chaired a meeting on air defense, where new challenges were examined—prompted by Russia's efforts to upgrade its military hardware.
According to intelligence, Russia intends to produce over 7 million FPV drones by 2026. Meanwhile, Ukrainian interceptor drones have proven their worth, destroying more than 3,500 enemy drones in May alone. The second tier of air defense also continues its mission, having eliminated over 1,200 Russian unmanned aircraft in the past month. Additionally, Ukrainian helicopter crews took out more than 440 Russian drones during May.
Oleksandr Syrskyi stated: 'This presents us with new challenges that demand a timely response.'
He emphasized the need to expand air defense capabilities and integrate army aviation to ensure robust protection of Ukrainian airspace. Amid persistent threats from Russia, interceptor drones have become the backbone of 'mini air defense,' enabling a more agile response to enemy attacks.
New Dangers and Ukrainian Military Adaptation
Furthermore, debris from a Russian drone discovered recently in the Chernihiv region was found to be radioactive. This indicates that Moscow is not only refining its technology but also resorting to hazardous methods in warfare. Consequently, Ukrainian forces are actively adjusting to these new conditions to safeguard the country and protect its citizens.
The escalating threat from Russian drones is driving Ukraine to refine its air defense tactics. The Kremlin's plan for mass drone production underscores the urgent need for Ukrainian troops to adapt quickly, which in turn requires investment in cutting-edge technology and stronger defensive capabilities.
- Integrating new drone types into the air defense system is a critical step toward ensuring reliable protection of Ukraine's airspace as the conflict continues.
