Critical situation: Finnish president comments on the war in Ukraine.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb believes that the situation in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is critical. However, now the situation for Ukraine looks better than three months ago. He noted that it is difficult to predict when this war will end, as it has been going on for more than 2.5 years. But he is glad that talks about peace have started.
The Finnish president supports the terms for achieving peace proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. These terms include the return of territories, security guarantees, holding war criminals accountable, and the rebuilding of the country. Stubb promises to support Ukraine for as long as it takes.
The Finnish president claims that his country has already chosen its side and cannot be an objective mediator in the negotiations. He also believes that Ukraine should not limit the use of Western weapons for self-defense in the event of strikes in Russia, provided these strikes are not aimed at civilian targets.
Stubb adds that Russia is a security threat to Finland for various reasons. However, there is currently no reason for serious concern. He believes that Finland should be prepared for hybrid operations from Russia, such as informational actions, border situations, and sabotage. In relations with Russia, it is necessary to prepare for a period of uncertainty.
