How many military personnel released from Russian captivity were tortured: data from the GUR.
Over 95% of military personnel released from captivity were tortured or suffered due to violations of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. This was reported by Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine at the forum 'Genocidal Practices of the Russian Federation in Ukraine: from the Holodomor to the Russo-Ukrainian War.'
According to Yusov, most cases of torture were not aimed at obtaining information but were aimed at breaking resistance and humiliating a person, depriving them of dignity and forcing them to abandon their values. He also noted that there is a system for torturing captives in Russia that trains 'specialists.'
Despite the difficult situation, Ukraine continues to work on the return of detained defenders and abducted civilians. A total of 58 exchanges have been carried out, resulting in approximately 4000 Ukrainians returning home.
The most difficult groups to exchange are the defenders of Mariupol and Ukrainians who have already received judicial sentences in Russia. This was reported by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.
We remind you that Ukraine received lists of prisoners of war from Russia on November 8. Thanks to Qatar, lists of missing servicemen and letters they wrote to their relatives were also found.
