Glory to Ukraine!: Two years ago, the Russians shot Hero Oleksandr Matsiyevskyi.

The murder of Ukrainian soldier Matsiyevskyi
On December 30, 2022, Russian troops killed Ukrainian soldier Oleksandr Matsiyevskyi. He was shot after he said 'Glory to Ukraine!'.
On that day, the fire support company where Matsiyevskyi served took positions near the town of Soledar in the Donetsk region. They needed to prevent the enemy's movement in a direction where there were no Ukrainian troops. Despite the uncertain location of the enemy, they needed to act quickly to save the soldiers in Soledar.
It is unknown what happened during the battle. Matsiyevskyi went into battle with a regular assault rifle, even though he was a sniper. It is likely that the video of his shooting was taken after he was captured, as combat gear is not visible.
Recall that on March 6, 2022, a video appeared showing Russian soldiers killing a Ukrainian fighter after he shouted 'Glory to Ukraine!'. It has been established that this fighter may be Oleksandr Matsiyevskyi. His mother identified him, and this was later confirmed by the Security Service of Ukraine.
Matsiyevskyi was born in Moldova but later moved to Ukraine. He voluntarily joined the army when the war with Russia began. He died from wounds sustained from gunfire.
Matsiyevskyi was buried in Nizhyn, where a street was also named in his honor. In 2023, monuments to the hero were erected in Kyiv and Nizhyn.
In 2024, the murder of 109 Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian occupiers was officially confirmed.
