Service in Territorial Defense Groups — does this exempt from conscription.

Members of territorial defense volunteer formations (TDF) do not have the status of servicemen. Such citizens are subject to military conscription just like other conscripts.

What is TDF

Territorial defense volunteer formations are units created by local residents at their own will. Anyone interested can join such associations. TDF units help maintain order, support defense forces, and can guard strategic facilities. These volunteers do not have official serviceman status but are subordinate to the command of territorial defense.

Mobilization of TDF members

According to the response to a request from Facts ICTV from the Ministry of Defense, participation in a volunteer formation does not mean exemption from mandatory military service. This applies to both conscription and mobilization.

Lawyer Anna Daniel notes that TDF members who are fit for service in terms of health and have the appropriate military specialty can be conscripted into the ranks of the Armed Forces or other defense units. The conscription of TDF members is carried out on a territorial basis: conscripts are assigned to units operating within the region where they reside.

It is also worth noting that the mobilization and martial law in Ukraine have been extended for another 90 days. This concerns the period from August 7 to November 5.

Additionally, we reported that during mobilization, conscripts must always carry military identification documents. During checks, they can present a military ticket or a temporary conscription certificate.

Members of territorial defense volunteer formations do not have the status of servicemen and are subject to military conscription on equal terms with other citizens who have military obligations. Volunteers participating in formations may be mobilized during nationwide mobilizations, regardless of their status. The military command can conscript members of volunteer formations under the same rules and requirements as those concerning other conscripts.
