Minister's Appeal for Energy Conservation

According to Novyny.live: During a speech at a plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada, Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal called on businesses and local authorities to reduce their electricity consumption. He emphasized the urgent need to switch off external lighting, advertising structures, and illuminated signs. This appeal comes as Ukraine's energy system faces significant strain, requiring collective action to ensure stability.

In his address, the minister specifically urged entrepreneurs to power down:

  • Decorative light strings
  • Business signage
  • LED display screens
  • All other forms of outdoor advertising illumination

Shmyhal stated that the electricity saved through these measures should be redirected to meet public demand. He stressed the critical importance of this step, declaring:

'If you have surplus energy, it is better to direct it to the people. This is the most vital task today, and the public will undoubtedly be grateful for your contribution.' Denys Shmyhal

The initiative aims to alleviate pressure on the national power grid and guarantee a sufficient electricity supply for households amid rising demand.

Severity of the Energy Sector Situation

The minister's urgent appeal highlights the serious challenges within the country's energy sector, likely linked to constrained resources or heightened electricity usage. Switching off non-essential external lighting and advertising could be a crucial measure for stabilizing the energy situation, particularly during peak load periods. This call to action also underscores the growing need for coordinated efforts between the state, the business community, and the public to navigate the ongoing energy crisis.
