A Unique 20-Kilometer Layer of Rock Found Under the Bermuda Triangle: Geologists' Discovery

According to ТСН: Researchers have discovered a significant geological layer of rock beneath the Bermuda Islands measuring 20 km thick, which has no analogs on the planet. This discovery could help unravel the origins of the archipelago in the Atlantic.

Scientists have recorded a unique 'anomaly,' the likes of which have not yet been found. For many people, the Bermuda Triangle is associated with the mysterious disappearances of ships and airplanes. While most causes of these phenomena have been clarified, the 'mystery' is considered solved.

Geological Discovery

This time, researchers were interested not in what occurs on the surface of the archipelago but what is hidden beneath it. New research has revealed a large geological structure beneath the Bermuda Islands.

A layer of rock approximately 20 km thick has been discovered in the oceanic crust, which currently has no known analogs in the world.

Researchers' Explanation

Dr. William Fraser from Carnegie Science in Washington explained why this massive underwater layer is unusual:

"Typically, beneath the oceanic crust, there should be the mantle. But beneath the Bermuda Islands, there is another layer located under the crust, within the tectonic plate on which the archipelago lies."

Scientists have not yet precisely determined how this thick layer of rock formed, but the discovery may help understand why the archipelago rises above sea level. The Bermuda Islands are located on an oceanic uplift, yet the nature of the volcanic processes that may have created it remains a mystery, as the last recorded eruption occurred 31 million years ago.

There is a possibility that this ancient eruption lifted the ocean floor, and the discovered rock anomaly is geological evidence of this process.

Dr. Fraser noted:

"Understanding places like Bermuda, which are geologically extreme, helps better understand less extreme regions. It provides insight into which processes on Earth are common and which are exceptional."

Oceanographers have found rational explanations for the mysterious disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle, debunking theories about portals or UFOs. The main cause of disasters is 'rogue waves' — massive natural formations created by the collision of powerful storms and hurricanes. Despite its mystical reputation, accident statistics in this region do not exceed average figures, and the 'Devil's Triangle' is not on the list of the most dangerous shipping zones, confirming the man-made nature of this myth.

This discovery beneath the Bermuda Islands not only expands our understanding of geology but also may shed light on various aspects of ecology and marine environments. Research continues, and scientists hope to find more answers to numerous questions about this mysterious part of the world.
