The USA is ready to close the sky over Ukraine: what it means for Europe

Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak emphasized that the possibility of closing the sky over Ukraine by the United States is a positive step for Ukraine and a problem for Russia. He compared this air umbrella to the air protection used by all of Europe.

'This is like tactical aviation, air defense, aviation operations, for example, gathering information, reconnaissance information, control over water and land territories. These are missile defense systems that cooperate into a unified air defense system as such,' Podolyak clarified.

Expressing his opinion on the possibility of deploying foreign troops in Ukraine, he noted that European countries have always considered this possibility only in the context of discussing the retention of U.S. air cover. Participants in the meeting in Washington with Trump, he said, received a stronger signal for Russia than expected from Putin, so communication with the American side took place in a more productive environment.

'What happened in Washington, in my opinion, is much more productive. I mean the security guarantees that were discussed, and the willingness of the United States to organize meetings in bilateral and trilateral format. This is a completely different level, it's an adult level compared to the infantile proposals of Russia,' he concluded.

These statements are a response to the possibility of the USA providing air support to Ukraine, which was previously expressed by President Trump and confirmed by the White House Press Secretary. This move is seen as an important signal for the region and society as a whole.
