The USA and Russia are holding secret negotiations for peace in Ukraine: what is known.
According to ТСН: This weekend in Miami (USA), negotiations will take place between representatives of the United States and Russia, dedicated to the possible end of the war between Ukraine and Russia.
According to the publication, the American authorities intend to present the Russian side with the results of recent consultations in Berlin, where an updated peace plan for Ukraine was discussed. Washington will try to convince the Kremlin to accept new proposals for a ceasefire.
Representatives of the parties at the meeting
The Russian delegation is expected to include the head of the Russian National Wealth Fund, Kirill Dmitriev. From the American side, special envoy of Donald Trump’s administration Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner participated.
Sources report that the negotiations in Miami are seen as a separate diplomatic event, not directly related to other international formats regarding Ukraine.
Also, a Ukrainian delegation led by National Security Advisor Rustem Umerov will arrive in Miami to hold separate negotiations with Witkoff and Kushner.
At the same time, according to reports, there is no plan for a trilateral meeting involving the USA, Ukraine, and Russia. The negotiation process remains divided, raising doubts about Kyiv's real influence on the discussion of a possible end to the war.
The USA plans to create a group of military representatives from countries supporting Ukraine in the near future. Their goal is to study the technical aspects of security and territorial issues in the event of a ceasefire.
Negotiations between the USA and Russia in Miami take place in parallel and are not part of this format, indicating a complex multi-level diplomacy surrounding the war.
Europe's Position
Over the past two weeks, European leaders have actively discussed possible security guarantees for Ukraine. Among the proposals is the creation of a demilitarized zone along the current front line, as well as commitments for training Ukrainian military and monitoring adherence to the ceasefire regime.
An anonymous European official noted that coalition forces might be tasked to use aircraft and drones to monitor the front line. Part of the military will likely be stationed in western Ukraine to assist in the restoration and training of the Armed Forces, rather than participating in combat actions.
The USA and Russia meeting in Miami could serve as an important diplomatic signal, as the lack of a common format involving Ukraine raises concerns among experts. It is unknown whether Moscow is willing to make real compromises and what role Kyiv will play in this process.
Moreover, Colonel of the Security Service and Secretary of the Defense Committee of the Verkhovna Rada Roman Kostenko stated that Russia is not interested in a genuine end to the war and uses peace negotiations to buy time and pressure Ukraine and the West. According to him, the so-called 'peace plan' contains provisions favorable to the Kremlin, including recognition of Russia's control over occupied territories, freezing the front line, and Ukraine's refusal to join NATO.
Kostenko emphasized that the details of the plan remain closed even to the parliament, and Russia traditionally manipulates the negotiation process, setting key demands regarding territories. He also warned about the danger of the idea of a 'gray zone,' which could create additional security risks. In his opinion, the current moment is unfavorable for signing any agreements for both Ukraine and due to the lack of real willingness from Moscow to achieve peace.
