The US Security Strategy is Changing: Europe is Left Alone with Russia

According to ТСН: The new US national security strategy shows that Europe is left alone in the face of the threat from Russia. This opinion was expressed by American General Ben Hodges in an interview on the program 'Studio West'.

The general noted that the recently published document indicates a significant shift in Washington's priorities and sent a clear signal to European partners.

'The national security strategy released by the US administration looks to me like a big middle finger to Europe. It essentially says: Europe, you are on your own.'

In his opinion, although not stated directly, the content of the document creates the impression that Europe has been left within the sphere of Russian influence.

Hodges also pointed out that the US has defined the Western Hemisphere as its primary sphere of interest.

'We see this in actions in the Caribbean against Venezuela, discussions about Greenland, or Canada. All of this is an indication of how the administration sees the world.'

According to him, this approach is confirmed by the reorganization of the US Department of Defense, which anticipates a new distribution of military resources.

Regarding Russia, the general believes that Washington's position appears to suggest that Europe is being offered to solve its own security problems.

'The US seems to have told Europe: figure it out yourself. At the same time, it is hard to understand how committed the United States really are to NATO.'

Commenting on relations with China, Hodges noted that Washington does not intend to allow Beijing to control the Pacific Ocean, but the willingness for military confrontation appears questionable.

'From what the administration says and does, it seems that as long as the US can trade and act in the Pacific, they will not be ready to fight, for example, for Taiwan.'

Moreover, it was noted that the rules of the global order and institutions today face a crisis of legitimacy as the US moves away from them.

In particular, it is discussed that the internal environment of the US president actively considers Russia as a promising direction for American business after the war in Ukraine ends.

This analysis of the US strategy emphasizes important changes in Washington's foreign policy, which could significantly affect European security. General Hodges points out that Europe needs to be prepared for new challenges and to independently address its issues in the context of relations with Russia, which threatens the security architecture of the region.
