The USA and Russia are negotiating energy deals for peace in Ukraine
According to inkorr.com: Negotiations between representatives of the USA and Russia concern several energy deals aimed at fostering a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. According to Reuters, these deals are designed to encourage the Kremlin to cease hostilities and ease sanctions imposed on Russia.
"These deals were proposed as an incentive to encourage the Kremlin towards peace in Ukraine and to ease Washington's sanctions against Russia"
Among the topics discussed was the potential return of Exxon Mobil to the Russian project "Sakhalin-1," from which it exited in 2022 due to losses. There was also talk about acquiring American equipment for Russian liquefied natural gas production projects and purchasing atomic cryogenic technology from Russia.
Formation of deals and negotiations
The negotiations took place during the visit of US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow and were discussed at the White House with President Donald Trump. These initiatives became part of the discussion at the summit held in Alaska.
"The White House really wanted to generate headlines after the summit in Alaska by announcing a major investment deal. This is how Trump believes he has achieved a result"
Despite the active dialogue, Trump warned about possible sanctions against Russia if the negotiations do not yield substantial results, as well as about the introduction of strict tariffs on trade with India, one of Russia's key oil buyers. President Putin also expressed his thoughts on potential negotiations with President Zelensky.
Thus, during the negotiations between the USA and Russia, energy deals are being discussed that could become an important step towards peace in Ukraine. The issue of Exxon Mobil's return to the Russian project and the acquisition of American equipment raises great interest, but future sanctions and trade restrictions could significantly impact further negotiations and outcomes.
