20 New FLIRT Trains Headed to Poland: What Stadler’s Electric Units Bring to the Rails.
Stadler Unveils Regional Electric FLIRT Trains for Poland
According to Novyny.live: Swiss rolling stock manufacturer Stadler has unveiled the latest regional electric multiple units (EMUs) from its FLIRT series, commissioned by Polish operator Koleje Wielkopolskie. The supply agreement was finalized in March 2026, covering the delivery of 20 FLIRT trains at a base cost of €130 million (approximately PLN 553 million).
Notably, the total contract value, inclusive of maintenance services, could reach €260 million (around PLN 1.105 billion). Production of the railcars will take place at Stadler Polska’s facility in Siedlce. Each electric train will accommodate up to 627 passengers and achieve a top operational speed of 160 km/h.
Boosting Rail Infrastructure and Sustainability in Poland
The introduction of these new regional FLIRT EMUs aims to upgrade Poland’s transportation network and deliver a more comfortable travel experience for passengers.
This deal marks a significant step in modernizing Poland’s railway system, with potential benefits for public mobility and regional economic growth. Beyond faster and more comfortable journeys, the electric-powered trains are expected to reduce environmental impact by cutting emissions compared to diesel alternatives.
In short, the project is poised to strengthen rail transport’s competitiveness against other modes of travel across Poland.
