Fine for Driving in Slippers: When the Police Have the Right to Fine.
According to inkorr.com: In hot weather, Ukrainian drivers prefer light footwear such as slippers or flip-flops, and sometimes even drive barefoot. However, the issue of safety regarding this choice concerns many, especially considering the possible fines from the police.
This is reported by 'Your Car'.
In Ukrainian legislation, there are no direct prohibitions on using a certain type of footwear while driving a car. Law enforcement cannot impose fines just because the driver is wearing slippers. However, the situation changes if such footwear negatively affects road safety.
Risks When Driving in Light Footwear
Auto lawyer Mykhailo from Ternopil notes: 'Article 125 of the Code of Administrative Offenses provides for a fine for actions that threaten road safety. Footwear becomes an issue only when it interferes with driving.' According to him, there have been cases in Ukraine where drivers received fines after accidents where investigators noted improper footwear as one of the factors in the crash.
Experts in traffic safety emphasize the real risks. Light footwear can get stuck on the pedal or slip off in critical situations, which poses a threat to safety. Driving instructor Kyrylo from Kyiv confirms these concerns: 'In practice, we observe that even experienced drivers can lose control when sandals get stuck under the pedal. It’s better to have a pair of sneakers in the car.'
Although drivers often choose light footwear on hot days, this can lead to hazards on the road. In Ukraine, there are no fines for wearing slippers while driving, but they can result in accidents due to loss of control over the vehicle. Experts advise drivers to have comfortable footwear in the car to ensure safe driving.
Using light footwear while driving has become a relevant topic, especially on hot days. It’s worth remembering that comfort and safety should always go hand in hand. Considering the possible risks, drivers should responsibly approach their choice of footwear and have a spare pair to avoid unforeseen situations on the road. Responsibility for safety on the road is not only the driver's duty but also a guarantee of the safety of all road users.Read also
