Young Ukrainians are mass applying for protection in Switzerland: what the statistics showed.
According to inkorr.com: Since the beginning of September 2025, interest among Ukrainians aged 18-22 in Switzerland has grown, as they seek temporary migration protection. According to the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), by mid-October, about a thousand young Ukrainians have applied for residence permits of category S.
The growth dynamics of applications is striking: if only three applications were registered in the last week of August, then in the following weeks their number increased first to 33, then to 77, and by mid-October reached a previous peak of 185 applications.
To date, nearly a third of all applications for 'protected migration status S' in Switzerland come from young people aged 18-22. Overall, the increase in the number of requests for residence permits of category S, registered after September, is largely related to this age group.
In recent weeks, there has been a decrease in new applications for this status, which may indicate that the peak interest among Ukrainians in this age category has already passed.
Young Ukrainians are actively turning to Swiss authorities with requests for temporary migration protection. Although the number of such applications was rapidly increasing, in recent weeks there has been a decline in this figure, which likely indicates a gradual calm in this situation.
Thus, we observe an interesting trend: youth from Ukraine are actively seeking opportunities in a new place. However, as the latest dynamics show, their demand for migration status may be declining, which may indicate a change in the vectors of their mobility or the recovery of the situation in Ukraine.
