Male students obligated to undergo military training starting September 1: conditions and consequences named.
Starting from September 1, 2025, male students in Ukrainian higher education institutions will begin to receive military training. This decision is provided for in the mobilization law 3633-IX, which came into force last year.
The training will consist of theoretical and practical stages conducted at higher military educational institutions, military training units, and other universities. For male students, this will be mandatory, while for female students it will be voluntary. They will be given the opportunity to choose only theoretical training or to undergo practical training as well, but only if they do not have the opportunity to serve in the army.
Successful completion of the basic training is significant for budget students who receive scholarships. After successfully completing the training, students will take the military oath and receive a military accounting specialty.
The changes will be fully integrated into the curriculum and will be assessed as a separate discipline. The training system will be gradually implemented, initially affecting students who entered educational institutions in the past or current year, and later expanding to include other students in secondary schools and colleges.
The government of Ukraine has decided to introduce military training for male students starting from September 2025, coordinating the structure of the training and its integration into the curriculum. This initiative aims to increase the country's defense capabilities and the readiness of youth for military service if necessary.
