Power and Water Cut Off Across Sumy Region Following Infrastructure Attack.
Electricity and Water Supply Failures in Sumy
According to TSN.ua: Disruptions to electricity and water supply have been reported in the city of Sumy. A significant portion of the Sumy region has been left without power following a major technical failure. Mayor Oleksandr Lysenko confirmed the incident, stating
"Preliminary information indicates an accident occurred."Parts of the city are also experiencing a loss of water pressure and supply.
Power outages have been recorded not only in Sumy but also in the city of Okhtyrka. Due to the situation, the municipal enterprise KP 'Electroavtotrans' announced a suspension of trolleybus services. This decision was necessary because the electricity cutoff directly impacted the operation of the city's electric public transport.
Military Strikes Compound Infrastructure Crisis
Separately, in the city's Kovpakivskyi district, impacts from three strike drones launched by Russian forces were recorded. Fortunately, there were no casualties. The regional situation remains under control, with local authorities working to restore both electricity and water services.
These utility failures in Sumy and Okhtyrka occur against a backdrop of escalating military activity in northeastern Ukraine, highlighting the acute vulnerability of civilian infrastructure during conflict. The Sumy region, which borders Russia, has frequently been targeted by shelling and drone attacks. Authorities are actively working to restore services, but the situation raises serious concerns about the stability of energy and water networks in a warzone. It is important to monitor further developments and the measures that may be implemented to improve the situation in the region.
