Aldi Launches Christmas Price War: Promises Lowest Prices on Turkey

According to The Sun: Large supermarkets have already begun a price war ahead of Christmas, promising the lowest prices on turkey fillet and ham.

During the festive season, supermarkets compete for consumer attention, trying to attract them with attractive offers on Christmas products.

Price War from Aldi

This year Aldi started the price war earlier, promising that 'it will not be undersold' on a range of products for Christmas dinner.

The supermarket assures that it will match prices on similar products at its main competitors.

The offering includes:

  • Fresh British turkey
  • Fresh turkey (crown)
  • Frozen turkey
  • Frozen turkey (crown)
  • Perfect Christmas salmon
  • Ashfields roasting beef
  • Large pork joint
  • Fresh lamb joint
  • Fresh ham

Aldi has not yet revealed prices for these products, which will appear on shelves between now and December.

The supermarket will be tracking prices at Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Co-op, Marks & Spencer, Waitrose, Ocado, and Iceland.

Prices will be checked daily, but changes may take a few days.

If you find a lower price on a similar product in other supermarkets at the time of purchase, Aldi will check this price.

The price guarantee will be in effect from December 19 to 23.

What is Not Covered by the Price Guarantee

It should be noted that not all Aldi turkeys and products are covered by this price guarantee. Here are a few items that are not included:

  • Ultimate British Free-Range Whole Turkey – £13.49, on sale from December 19
  • British Roly Poly Bronze Free-Range Whole Turkey – £7.99, on sale from December 19
  • British Slow-Cooked Turkey Crown – £29, on sale from December 5
  • British 2-Bone Rib of Beef – £21.99, on sale from December 19
  • British Crackling Gammon Joint – £19.99, on sale from December 5

Aldi has also launched over 150 new products in this year's Christmas range.

Among the new items are small raspberry and pistachio biscuits, lobster and cheese pasta, and a Christmas tin of cookies.

To complete the festive table, packs of sausages, Ashfields lamb, and a Wagyu roasting rack are offered.

Last year, rivals competed for the lowest prices on Christmas vegetables, reducing prices on carrots, parsnips, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and potatoes to 15 pence a bag before December 25.

However, in 2024, prices decreased even more: Asda and Aldi lowered them to 8 pence.

Aldi was recently named the cheapest supermarket according to the consumer website Which?, rating a basket of 71 commonly purchased items.

Despite the fierce competition among supermarkets this Christmas, food and drink prices are expected to rise significantly throughout the winter.

The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) has already stated that current prices are 'higher than ever in the last few decades'.

They also warned of a potential increase in food and drink prices by 5.7% by the end of the year, which will impact the Christmas budgets of many shoppers.
