The aim is to bring fresh baked goods to smaller Asda stores that previously did not have a fresh bakery department.
The updated menu includes cinnamon rolls, pain au raisin, cookies, and brownies, as well as new additions such as a pesto and parmesan roll, cheese croissant, and a limited-edition Sicilian lemon meringue danish.
Popular flavors such as Biscoff croissants are also part of the lineup, and all of them are being baked fresh every morning.
Other novelties in supermarket bakeries
Aldi has quietly launched bakery counters in 25 stores.
The budget supermarket initially launched bakeries in stores over five years ago, and now 25 of its 1050 locations have them.
Lidl recently introduced a new summer item for its famous in-store bakery that has excited shoppers.
Strawberry and cream blondie has a classic vanilla base and creamy frosting.
Meanwhile, earlier this year it was revealed that Tesco was cutting positions in its bakery team as the brand seeks to shift away from staff baking items inside supermarkets.
The retailer announced in January that it would cut 400 roles across all stores and the head office, with bakers being the most affected category.
However, the supermarket chain stated that there would be no changes to its bakery range, and customers will still have access to all the usual baked goods, including its Finest range.
In January, Sainsbury’s discontinued all remaining bakery, patisserie, rotisserie, and pizza counters in its larger outlets.
This means shoppers will still have access to baked goods such as Hovis bread and Mr. Kipling cakes, while self-service bread slicing machines will be introduced.
Large supermarkets continue to modernize their bakeries and introduce new products, vying for shoppers' attention. Asda is taking an innovative approach in its stores, where customers can now witness the exciting and fresh process of baking. These changes may open new opportunities for customers and strengthen Asda's market position.
