Switzerland explained its support for the peace initiative of China and Brazil.
Switzerland supports the peace initiative of China and Brazil regarding Ukraine without mentioning the country's territorial integrity. This was stated by the spokesperson of the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nicolas Bideau.
According to him, Switzerland supports the initiative because it calls for a ceasefire and a political solution to the conflict. He also noted that the initiative aligns with the framework of the UN Charter.
The countries invited Switzerland to a meeting they held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. According to media reports, the USA and European countries do not support this initiative due to the lack of reference to the UN Charter, which is seen as an endorsement of Moscow's strategy.
The spokesperson of the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reported that Canada will hold a conference in October dedicated to humanitarian issues such as prisoners, child abductions, and compliance with the Geneva Conventions.
