Switzerland limits S protection for Ukrainians from 7 regions: what has changed.
According to inkorr.com: Ukrainians can continue to receive S protection status in Switzerland until March 4, 2027. However, starting from November 1, 2025, new restrictions will be introduced for those applying from seven regions of Ukraine. This decision was made in response to Russia's aggression and the existing security threats in certain areas of Ukraine.
New restrictions
From October 8, 2025, applicants from Volyn, Rivne, Lviv, Ternopil, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Chernivtsi regions may be denied S protection status in Switzerland. At the same time, those who are denied will be able to apply for asylum.
Under certain conditions, temporary residence in Switzerland may be possible for individuals denied protection status if their deportation is impossible. However, the restoration of regions in the list is possible if the situation changes.
Protection status
It is important to note that the new restrictions will not affect Ukrainians who already have S protection status in Switzerland as of November 1, 2025. These restrictions will only apply to new applications submitted after October 31 and considered after November 1, 2025, with the possibility of updating the list of regions in the future.
Summary
Switzerland will continue to provide protection to Ukrainians, but with new restrictions for applicants from seven regions due to Russian threats and security issues. These changes reflect the overall trend in Europe toward reviewing and adapting migration policies for Ukrainian refugees.
