Svitolina advanced to the third round of the 2024 Olympics.
In the second round of the 2024 Olympics tennis, Elina Svitolina defeated American Jessica Pegula and advanced to the 1/8 finals. The match lasted 1 hour 49 minutes and ended with a score of 4:6, 6:1, 6:3.
In the confrontation with the fifth seed of the tournament, Svitolina made 30 winners and three aces. She hit 67% of her first serves and made four double faults.
In the next round, Svitolina will play against the 2024 Wimbledon champion, Czech Barbora Krejčíková. The match will take place on Tuesday, July 30.
Svitolina became the second Ukrainian to reach the 1/8 finals of the Paris-2024 singles tournament. Previously, Marta Kostyuk also won her second-round match.
Let us recall that in the first round of the Olympic competition, Svitolina confidently defeated Japanese Moyuka Uchijima with a score of 6:2, 6:1.
Svitolina is a former world number three and the best tennis player in the history of Ukraine. At the past Olympic Games in Tokyo-2020, she won a bronze medal, becoming the first Ukrainian tennis player to reach the podium in tennis.
In addition, Svitolina, together with swimmer Mykhailo Romanchuk, carried the flag of Ukraine at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics.
