Sweden fired head coach after scandalous defeat: what happened.
Sweden fired the coach
According to The Sun: Sweden fired coach Jon Dahl Tomasson after the defeat to Kosovo.
Shortly after the match, Tomasson sharply criticized forwards Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak for their unsatisfactory performances.
GettyThe 1-0 home defeat has practically diminished Sweden's chances of reaching the final stage of the World Cup.
The team now has only one point after four matches and is six points behind the playoff zone, with two matches remaining.
Despite having forwards worth £193.5 million, Sweden has managed to score only two goals.
Gyökeres and Isak did not show good form in the match against Kosovo, with the Liverpool player having the least number of touches on the ball on the field – only 31.
“This is not good enough, and it’s a terrible result. It really hurts, we have forgotten how to score goals, and I don’t know why,”
– commented Tomasson after the defeat.
This is still a developing story.
Tomasson’s dismissal became a logical consequence of the team’s poor results in the qualifiers, which seriously undermined Sweden’s chances of participating in the world championship. How the team will find a new coach and how this will affect their future performances remains to be seen. The football community is eagerly awaiting news on the further developments in the Swedish national team.
