Ukrainian Ruslan delivered Israeli Spyder air defense systems to Georgia: flight details.
According to ТСН: Social media users and aviation trackers noticed an unusual route of a Ukrainian cargo plane. The Antonov An-124 'Ruslan' made a flight from Israel to Georgia, transporting a specific cargo — Israeli-made air defense systems. Official sources from both countries have not yet provided any comments on this matter.
This became known thanks to the 'Militarnyi' portal and OSINT researchers.
Flight and cargo details
Information about the transport was published by attentive observers on social network X. One military observer posted footage from Israel's Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. The video and photos show the process of loading military equipment onto the 'Ruslan.'
Experts have determined that the cargo consisted of three launchers of the Spyder air defense system. Flight monitoring services confirmed that after departing from Israel, the plane headed to the Caucasus and landed at Tbilisi International Airport.
What is known about the Spyder air defense system
Georgia is already familiar with this type of weapon: in 2008, it purchased one battery of the Spyder-SR system from the Israeli company Rafael. This mobile all-weather complex is capable of destroying aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones at distances of up to 20 km.
In 2020, information emerged about Georgia's plans to upgrade and repair these systems. Perhaps, the current flight is related to the completion of this work or the procurement of new modifications, although there have been no public announcements about new contracts.
Analysts also noted the chassis of vehicles recorded in the photographs.
'Judging by the wheelbase of the vehicles in the published photos — 6x6, the An-124 transported three launchers of the Spyder-SR or MR air defense systems,' the specialized publication noted.
The MR version has an extended range and can hit targets at distances of up to 40 km.
In addition, it is worth noting that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are testing new weapons to counteract KABs, and Ukrainian military has developed ways to respond to one of the most challenging threats on the front.
This information highlights Georgia's activity in strengthening its defense capability, particularly through new air defense systems. Monitoring similar transports may indicate an increase in military cooperation between Ukraine and Israel in the context of security threats in the region. Georgia, equipped with unique technologies, aims to improve its defense, which is an important aspect not only for the country itself but also for security in the wider region.
